Creating Community

com·mu·ni·ty
kəˈmyo͞onədē/
noun
1. a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
2. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Thursday night is my favorite night of the week. It is the night that our community group will show up to our house. Walking through the door will come kiddos and treats. Sitting on my couch will be people who are celebrating joys or experiencing deep sorrow. We will laugh, cry, and talk about Jesus. With the sole purpose of creating community, doing life alongside of one another, supporting one another, lifting each other up and being carried by one another because our shared interest is Jesus. We intentionally created this beautiful group of community out of a sheer and desperate need. We are created to do life with others.

Community give us a place to belong. It can inspire us. It can push us forward. Real community isn't simply being close to one another, it's also about purpose. Being intentional with one another.

Let's be people who are known and know others in order to inspire one another. Pushing each other towards a deeper more committed relationship with Jesus.

Sometimes there are things that get in our way, sometimes those things are ourselves (maybe it's just me that gets in my own way), keeping us from creating that "place" of community. What keeps you from community? What stops you from creating a beautiful community filled with those who will fight alongside of you, dream with you, and pray for you? What excuses do you offer that stop you from creating community?

Will you put aside your fears and embrace community?
If you have community, how does it strengthen you?
