how we made {nature inspired} centerpieces.

the story of our adventure. we live near wilderness... thankfully. when i came up with this idea, i was determined to do it at the lowest cost possible. so i went in search of logs. with an ax in the trunk...

with my camera of course, so i snapped some cool pictures as we found a little creek...i took these two silly crazy kids...
i'd like to say we were successful... but we were not. but todd came through for me.
we (and by we... i mean todd) cut them into 4 stumps.
we (again todd... these are his legs) drilled 2" holes off centered in the log. we placed a votive into the hole to fill with water.
arranged wildflowers & a few flowers from trader joe's (had i had more time i was going to use all wild cut flowers)... here is the final project.

betty ball success.

these {images} are from our vintage [camping themed] event for the woman of university fellowship church.the centerpieces on the tables sat on vintage table cloths. i struggled to figure out with how to keep our camping theme and still make it cute. well... low and behold i figured it out. outdoorsy centerpieces. i will pass how to along soon. it was easy (for me) maybe not for todd.

we had t-shirts (for a small donation) created by katy putnam with kapart & they were amazing.

a creation made by tonie... s'mores cupcakes. uhmmm. yes they were delicious. seriously delicious. i actually ate them (if you know me i don't eat sugar). i ate these. actually i ate 2. oh my yum.

more of tonie's creations. we did fondue chocolate dip for everything else.

the prize table.

the sign in table.

we made them sing campfire songs. they all did it.

we had a ball... well not really. we planned a 10 day event for the ladies of university fellowship church. each night/ day was an event that you could attend. i believe we ended up with 14 events over the course of the 10 days. you could pick and choose which event you went to. we named it 'camp betty'... kind of an urban camp where you slept at home, spend moments with your family, and then escaped for a little adventure when you could. at the end... we had a ball with a 'camping' theme... going along with the 'camp betty' name. everyone used their talents & it turned out marvelous. we had vintage camping outdoor centerpieces (which i did... and am oh so proud of). cupcakes created to be s'mores by our 'wonderful cooker' (jeremy calls her this) tonie. entertainment by brenda who has so much energy it sick. it is amazing how when we mesh our gifts... amazing things happen.

if you haven't.

my late post of the 4th

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

i said earlier that the 4th of july is my favorite holiday. it also happens to be my dads birthday. so my favorite holiday becomes a little sad. so i walked through my day trying to be joyful. we had church in the morning. i got my hugs from people... with smiles on their faces (which was maddening). went with ash to buy fireworks. got home... had lunch. todd left on a 63 mile bike ride (in honor of my dad... he would have been 63). he came home for a few minutes. played frisbee in the front yard for a while. & said he was going to pick up some beverages. and off he went. for an hour. having my own pity party, i didn't know he was gone for an hour. i heard the door open & made fun of him... 'did you get lost?' in a girls voice i heard... 'no but i brought you drinks.' it was my sister. they surprised me with her & jason (the wonderful boyfriend)... coming up to stay for a few days. it was a few days of what i wish everyday were. here are a few pics of that week.

have you seen these.

'far away, there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. i may not reach them, but i can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, & try to follow.'
louisa may alcott

in the beauty of reality is this for me: far away lay my aspirations, {my dreams as it may be}, but i often lose sight of them. i lose sight of me. i struggle with the here and now & lose sight of what is ahead of me. [i have never claimed perfection. i know that i don't have it all together & will never pretend to have it so.] i need to look up & see my dreams, believe they are still out there {even if they they are light years away}, and follow them wholeheartedly. i need not settle because i think they are out of reach, but rather try harder to obtain them with a fervency that far surpasses my expectations for myself. here's to following. (this is my little pep talk for myself this morning).

fabric {bloom}.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

my sweet friend sarah asked me to make her some flowers like the ones from the [tea towel]
for a project she was doing. of course i jumped at the chance to do that... i love these little flowers. after making them in all white and cream... i decided to try the colors. thus coming up with the fabric {blooms}. the greatest thing about them? you can put them in your hair or put them on a shirt, scarf, hat... oh so many uses. it has both a clip & a pin. they are about 3 1/2" & oh so sweet.

leave a comment & you can win 1 of your choice

or hop over & get one just for yourself.
little girl hair clips are coming.

countdown until the {4th}.

Thursday, July 1, 2010

{fourth of july} is my favorite holiday. it always has been. since i was a kid. i get so excited the few days before the {4th}. i am pumped! i make the kids shirts each year. this year i let the kids theirs out. here is what jt picked out:
sew the letter off center. or put it on the back shoulder.
the 'j' is about 3 1/2 inches from the right seam.

old navy shirt
2 color scraps of fabric
wonder under

traced the letter backwards on the wonder under
cut it out.
fused it to the second piece of fabric.
cut around.
fused to the shirt.
sewed the letter down using a double stitch to make it stand out.
and done. {fourth of july shirt} that he can wear again.
& it is so much cuter than the ones from old navy or target.

{keep following. will pick a necklace winner this weekend}
